REC News

Dear Parents and Community,

We were all saddened to hear of the passing of Pope Francis. He was considered to be a pope ‘of the people’. Since his election as Pope on the 13th March 2013, Pope Francis has given so much hope to the Catholic Church and the world in general. He has been a Pope who has encouraged us to open ourselves more fully to the merciful love of Jesus. This is even reflected in his Papal Motto: "Lowly but chosen."

We are called to care and minister to the lowly, the poor, the forgotten. One of the ways in which we can do this is through the support of the organisation of St Vincent De Paul.

At school, this term, a ‘Mini-Vinnies’ group will be formed to guide our school in this important ministry.

What is Mini Vinnies?

Mini Vinnies empowers primary school students to become advocates within their school and local community by putting their values into action. Students meet regularly to learn about social justice issues, develop leadership skills and engage with the wider St Vincent de Paul Society.

What do they do?

Mini Vinnies members, with the guidance of teachers meet to discuss and raise awareness of social justice issues and organise ways to help others in need within their own school community and beyond. Mini Vinnies is also a great opportunity for students to reflect on the needs of those they want to help in their community, help shape compassion and understanding with their fellow students and share their passion to raise awareness about social justice issues.

Our Mini Vinnies group will meet every even week starting in Week 4, for a short time at lunch time each Wednesday.

May I request over the next few weeks that our parish and community offer prayers for Pope Francis. We pray too for the Church in this transition time.

Warm regards,

Loyola Best

Religious Education Coordinator (Acting)
